2025 IN REVIEW

As I sit here in the sauna that is my tiny apartment, sketching out the final design of the OFFLINE album artwork and prepin' me canvas to begin painting the front cover, I figure I best wrap up the year for GFR News.

me desk // Me tiny desk, me large canvas, reference materials and me easel //

What the fark did I learn in 2025?

1. THAT LIVING OFFLINE, FOR ME, IS NOT A FAD

Yep I love it and I am commited long term too. I have not touched social media or read anything about tech, sport or celebrities for over 6 months, and, bonus points, no advertising! I have no idea who won the last grand final in the betting infested AFL (Advertising Fatcats League) and with zero exposure to politics or world news I am a far happier camper I can tell you.

2. THAT I WISH WE WERE A REPUBLIC

Pretty sure the Queen is dead so what I reckon is we get rid of Parliament and play more Funkadelica. Also we should leave the commonwealth quick smart and make me THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF AUSTRALIA. Now there is brilliant thought..

My first edict would be that every square inch of government land is given back to the First Nation peoples and they are given all the power to make us respect the land and the bush and the trees. Second edict: all working original Australian musicians get paid a living wage and there is a decent musicians pension setup that provides housing and other basic services for free.

3. THAT THE MASSES REMAIN PERMANENTLY STUCK IN THE PARADIGM OF THE PAST

We could explain that: - Everything weak about a man comes from his head and his pride - Everything strong and courageous from his heart - Everything sexy about a woman comes from her intellect - Everything sensual and mysterious from her wordless communication

And yet nothing would change. Worth noting that like all true misanthropes !!I could not give a fuck whether the masses work out their foibles!!, care factor zero.

4. THAT I AM QUITE FUCKING CLOSE TO BEING A-SEXUAL

A number of years into my attempt at being truly A-Sexual (not having sex with other humans, animals or blow up dolls) and I am thinking more and more that I exist at my best without sex. I have relationships and emotions and fantasies and erotic thoughts and that is as far I can seem to go, it's an age thing to, I am heading towards the six oh at lite speed, and it is an experience thing and a hermit loner thing and a misanthrope thing. Anyway I may get some T-shirts made...

OK y'all go'n get messy at the Peptides NYE gig tonight now and I'll see you there (4th year in a row!). Or I'll see you in the new year for what I promise is going to be GFR News's most subversive year yet ;)

MACHINE MOTHERS MAKE LAZY DEPENDANT CHILDREN

Are machines actually helping us self actualise? Or turning us into forever babies, dependant completely on machines to survive?

steampunk machine // Steam-punk machine //

Machines take away hours and hours of boring repetitive tasks BUT DOING THOSE TASKS IS THE BEST TIME TO DEVISE GREAT THINGS. Einstein came up with all his best early theories while writing out triplicates of boring patents.

Suppose we have a woman living in the bush who chops her own wood and sets her fire every day by hand. This takes up a lot of her time and, supposedly, prevents her from fully realising her creative self. She has basic technology, the flint and axe, tech that would happen no matter what and was found, like the wheel and writing and irrigation, to have popped up at several places around the globe at the same time.

Now, to create more creative time and self actualise, the woman builds a more and more complex machine, not a natural and needed invention like the flint, but a complex invention that is not really needed but is there only to free up the woman's time to think and self actualise.

This machine plants and nurtures trees, chops them down, cuts them up and transports them to the hearth and lights and manages a fire at the right time each day of the year. Great huh? Now she is free to use that time.. to do what? She ends up stunned and confused, turned to pure laziness by letting the machine do everything.

And also, after generations of using this machine, does not the woman become utterly dependant on machines? She can't light a fire or chop wood anymore, there are no axes or flints just complex machine parts. Has the machine become the mother and the human totally dependant on it to survive a winter. Her muscles atrophy, her life becomes trapped inside her machine house with nothing to do except think of new machines?

Me brain just farted that out just then..

matrix // In the 90s The Matrix films smacked humanity in the head with the most frighteningly dystopian version of reality that was far beyond anything Oppenheimer could imagine - nothing was ever the same afterwards //
